Based on Aaron Brask's creative musicianship and humor as displayed throughout his recording: Music for the Holiday Season, this collection of classic carols can be performed in, at least, two possible formats: 1. as a Horn Quartet, or 2.with Horn Ensembles of 5-6 players or Horn Choirs. A Horn Quartet can perform parts 1 through 4. Larger ensembles may also add the optional descant parts for Joy to the World and O Come All Ye Faithful. Throughout this edition, we have endeavored to capture the spirit and the nuances of Aaron’s recording. His unique style and phrasing is worthy of discussion by teachers and students, and his performance of the fourth parts is a real model of fine low register performance. A wonderful collection of fifteen Holiday Songs arranged for two horns by Randall E. Faust. Playing Horn Duets has provided some of the most enjoyable moments for me in Horn lessons-both as a student and as a teacher. A couple of years ago, during the Covid-pandemic lockdown, I recorded several of the following duets as part of the project for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. The recordings of the duets were used as part of a special KGS project that provided Holiday music in support of front-line medical workers. Subsequently, some of my students have also enjoyed playing these. These duets are being published so that more hornists may perform them.
